Hello and welcome to Episode 32 of From Paper To People! I’m your hostess with the mostest, Carolynn ni Lochlainn, and I’m here with a quick bonus edition of The Genie News: the podcast edition. It’s been an exciting week, so I’m here to step out of format with updates specifically about the podcast.
First, we’ve had over 14k downloads in 2018 so far, and only a few weeks to go until the New Year. I can’t tell you how much that means to me. This community is a groovy bunch of pumpkins and I am glad that you choose to download and hang out with me. Thank you so very much for making my year.
In future…I will continue to build the podcast and in addition, I am starting a new research initiative in 2019. It’s not yet ready to be fully discussed and released. It’s going to be long-term and really great, though – an opportunity to learn and to do service for others.
And the growth continues…From Paper To People is now on iHeartRADIO! You can listen on Roku, Apple TV, Xbox One, Android Smart TV, Samsung Smart TV, Vizio TV, LG TV, TiVo and any mobile device that carries iHeartRADIO programming. To find the podcast online at iHeartRADIO, go to goo.gl/YuLTe8.
And speaking of growth – The podcast has 3 new Patrons at the Roots level – Maryann Sezaki, Sheri Walls, and Scott Evans. [recorded applause]
And speaking of Patreon – ever wondered what EXACTLY you get for becoming a patron? I’ve developed the perqs even further, so here’s the complete list.

PLUS – Berries get to help craft an episode, lesson, or interview – whatever we can brainstorm together – and membership in the private Facebook group. Swag-wise, Berries get the ultimate – a MUG with the podcast logo.
Speaking of the Facebook group – it’s creating its own Random Acts of Genealogy Kindness spreadsheet, and people are signing on to do lookups for one another both online and in brick-and-mortars. If you become a patron, you’re in the group, and you can give and receive that kindness. It’s yet another perq of being a part of the community.
If you’ll already a patron, you get periodic emails from me, posts from Patreon, including private ones for patrons only. If you don’t financially support the podcast, you can still follow the public posts at patreon.com/ancestorsalive. You can leave comments on posts and we can have discussions there. It’s an especially good place to chat for those who aren’t on Facebook.
Finally, though, I have a very special announcement: Kenyatta Berry, host of PBS’ Genealogy Roadshow, is going to be a guest on the podcast! I am interviewing her in a few days. She just wrote a book called The Family Tree Toolkit. We’ll be talking about it, but we’ll also talk about how she’s arrived at this moment in her career. She’s funny, inspiring, and brilliant, so you will want to tune in and listen! If you live in the US, you can watch past episodes of Genealogy Roadshow on the PBS website. Outside of the US, you can catch interviews and bits of the show on YouTube.
That’s all I’ve got for you today. Come back for the next episode and in the meantime…Expect surprises!
