The exploitation of murdered adults and children for personal glorification by “grave collectors” (or ghouls) in the Buffalo and Uvalde shooting massacres are the tip of a very ugly iceberg in today’s genealogical circles. Find-a-Grave is haunted with ghouls.
These ghouls are breaking multiple guidelines AND Federal copyright law, but Find-a-Grave and parent company Ancestry are doing NOTHING to enforce their own rules. It’s hideous.
Even if family members of the deceased never see these “memorials,” filled with illegally-posted photos and lies about the final disposition of the deceased, we have to ask ourselves some basic questions:
☆ Why am I posting a memorial for someone I don’t know before the body has been completely identified? Before the funeral?
☆ What are my motives in collecting as many gravesites as possible among those who are not my relatives?
☆ To whom does benefit inure when I intrude on another’s grief without permission?
We must always be willing to grow in this life, and in our work. We must remain humble and teachable. If we put our egos above the work, we need to reassess our lives.
